![]() ![]() In the episode Sea Patrol: Pups Save Puplantis, for instance, Ryder inexplicably taps Rubble and Rocky for an underwater mission to stabilize the structure of a submerged city while Zuma simply joins that episode’s other backbenchers in waiting on the beach. But as the qualitative evidence (and every parent who’s watched the show has reams of it) suggests, Zuma even gets the shaft in cases that are seemingly tailor-made for his skillset. In part this is because Zuma’s gear is only useful in certain situations - there’s no need for a hovercraft when you’re trying to coax a pet chicken off the roof of a shed, for instance. The chocolate lab who specializes in water rescues has been called on fewer than half as many times as the crypto-fascist German Shepherd at the top of the Paw Patrol hierarchy. Not as versatile as a flying Cockapoo, perhaps, but still useful in certain situations. Tier Three is Marshall, the fire dog, and Rubble, the construction pooch. Tier Two consists of Rocky and Skye, utility players with skills (making new items out of garbage, and flight, respectively) that are useful in nearly any rescue. At the top is Chase who, for reasons unknown, is the crown jewel of Ryder’s kennel. The results imply a strict hierarchical structure within the Paw Patrol, with four tiers. Thanks to this careful data collection, we can see if our hunch regarding Ryder playing favorites with his pups is correct. One of the wild things about the Paw Patrol wiki is that not only do they maintain separate pages for all 400-some-odd individual episodes in the show’s run, but each of those pages also contains a detailed accounting of which pups Ryder calls on to complete the mission : “first responders,” in Paw Patrol wiki parlance. My four-year-old once noted, with dismay, that in one episode Zuma got passed over for a water rescue in favor of Rocky, a dog who’s entire personality is that he hates water. ![]() Zuma, on the other hand, rarely gets called on, even in situations that would seem to require his gear and expertise. It seems like Chase is always put on the case, firing up his SUV and burning untold gallons of fossil fuel in order to complete tasks as simple as setting out a single traffic cone. You only need to watch a few shows to realize that some pups get called out on assignment far more than others. This is where the brutal iniquities of Ryder’s iron-fisted rule come in. Ryder and whichever pups he selects for the mission - and it’s almost always a subset of pups, rather than the whole group - hop on their vehicles and go roaring off into town to save the day. The stuck pumpkin, for instance, might require Rubble’s bulldozer, Marshall’s medical expertise, and Chase with a bullhorn to scream at gawkers to stay away. Ryder responds to each situation, no matter how trivial, with overwhelming force. This hapless idiot calls Ryder, who assembles all the pups at their base. The structure of each show is as follows: somebody in Adventure Bay does something stupid, like getting a pumpkin stuck on their head or losing a cake. The pups’ overseer is Ryder, a 10-year-old human who is evidently both parentless and infinitely wealthy, constructing elaborate fortresses and acquiring powerful high-tech vehicles and gear to aid his pups in their rescues. There are six core pups in Paw Patrol: Chase, a German Shepherd dressed like a cop Marshall, a Dalmation firefighter Skye, a Cockapoo-type thing that flies a helicopter Rubble, the bulldog construction worker Rocky, a junkyard mutt who drives a garbage truck and Zuma, a chocolate lab with a hovercraft. As such, I thought I’d revisit one of the topics that’s preoccupied me ever since my kids started watching the show: the shocking disparities in how the pups are treated by their human owner, disparities that, in my view, are an existential threat to the entire ethos of the Paw Patrol, which is best summed up in the catch phrase “no job too big, no pup too small.” We’re currently living through “the biggest moment in Paw Patrol history,” according to the editors of the Paw Patrol Wiki (a fan site which, inexplicably, boasts 9,580 pages of content): Paw Patrol: The Movie was released last week, marking the Pups’ first adventure on the big screen. It’s universally hated by parents for precisely the same reasons. It’s universally beloved by toddlers in large part because in each episode the “pups,” as they’re called, ride out in colorful tacticool vehicles with sirens blaring to fight crime and rescue turtles and help the incompetent adults of Adventure Bay perform simple tasks, like picking up a crate of oranges that tipped over or whatever. Paw Patrol is an animated series about adorable canine paramilitary group that effectively acts as law enforcement, public safety and social services in the town of Adventure Bay. Chase and Marshall attend the "Paw Patrol" movie special screening at Vue Leicester Square on Augin London, England. ![]() Padded tongues offer security and softness, while structured sides support your ankles and arches. In 2023, this is even more key – many of us are not only browsing for personal reasons, but accessing shared work networks from our own homes, and we can’t rely on the closed off security of the physical office. Of course, as with everything else, technology has also given us the tools to protect ourselves and ensure that we are safe as our lives migrate online. Hackers and scammers know this, and work hard to exploit it for financial gain. Every move we make online is recorded, and we leave digital footprints wherever we visit. While access to everything online gives us an unparalleled level of convenience, it has also made us vulnerable. Almost every facet of our daily routines can be catered for online today, so it seems inevitable that our time spent online will only increase. Want to be entertained? Netflix, or online gaming. Catching up with friends? It’s FaceTime, Snapchat, or email. According to one report, Americans spent six and a half hours a day online in 2019 – a stat that is bound to have skyrocketed since lockdowns started. We’re spending more of our lives online than ever before. While Zoom is a great tool for catching up with buddies, can it do the job of supporting your business through the pandemic? We’ve evaluated several high-profile video conferencing systems and can help you find the right one for your company in minutes. The pandemic has also meant that more of us are working from home than ever, and in-person meetings have been replaced with video conferencing as office staff swap the boardroom for the bedroom (or wherever else they can find space to work at home). It’s not just social lives that have been transformed by video calls, either. This is backed up by the firm's impressive claim of 300 million ‘daily participants’ earlier in the year, compared to ‘just’ 10 million back in December 2019. If you hadn’t heard of Zoom before 2020, you will have certainly become aware of it by now, and while there are plenty of other video conferencing apps out there, it’s Zoom that has emerged the poster child for video chat in the public consciousness. Thanks to lockdowns and social distancing, families and friends are meeting up and socializing via video call more than ever before. While video calling has spent the last decade slowly creeping into daily life, it’s the ongoing pandemic that has pushed it over the edge and secured its future as an everyday way to stay in touch. ![]() No Doubt Performance Of Firefox Browser, Firefox Give Browser In Next Level With Super Speed Browser, Hardware Acceleration, Crash Protection, 3D Graphics. With Download Manager Integrated In Browser, You Can Download So Easy. You Can Easier To Organize Your Bookmark, Tags And Library.Firefox is also the only major browser backed by a non-profit fighting to give you more openness, transparency and control of your life online. Surprisingly, Iron Harvest takes its storytelling and worldbuilding very seriously - there are three campaigns which hail from the base game, each centered around a different faction in the next Great War the world faces after a brief post-WWI period of scientific and technological innovation. I personally didn’t vibe nearly as much as I wanted to with the original PC release for a variety of reasons - this year’s port for next-gen consoles, which packs under its “Complete Edition” banner all previous expansion packs and further enhancements, fixes some of the game’s more glaring issues, but also highlights its deep-rooted shortcomings. Hype surrounding Iron Harvest was high, and both the pre-launch betas and the final release hit remarkable player numbers, yet the reception wasn’t super-positive overall. RTS fanatics gladly welcomed this premise, as the genre had been mostly stagnant ever since Blizzard’s StarCraft II came out in 2010. Once the multiplayer, competitive, and co-op features are added, Iron Harvest is sure to become a staple of the RTS genre. It’s been more than a year since Iron Harvest fully launched on PC, and now it’s bringing war to consoles.Īfter a highly successful Kickstarter campaign, German video game developer KING Art Games started full-blown development on Iron Harvest, a dream project for the team the selling point was to bring rudimentary mechs into a post-WWI setting, effectively creating an alternate timeline with abundant possibilities for a real-time strategy title. While the game is certainly not perfect, for the developers’ second attempt at an RTS, Iron Harvest has a lot of potential. Lastly, one thing to keep in mind is that for some strange reason, the pause button is defaulted to the pause key on PC, so make sure to check your settings when starting the game to map it to a more convenient button, because you will be reaching for it a lot. Were it included in the base finished project, it would have made the game more enjoyable, allowing players to balance out the frantic gameplay more and gain a better sense of control over the battlefield. Unfortunately, while this aspect was promised in the initial Kickstarter campaign and promoted on Steam, the build of the game I played did not have this feature. The ability to play this game in co-op mode is one of the few aspects that would have really helped Iron Harvest stand out against other recent RTS games, like Warcraft III: Reforged and Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. ![]() These abilities can be used to take advantage of certain scenarios but come with some hefty cooldowns to balance them out. Hero characters work much the same as most RTS hero characters, acting as a whole squad with special abilities and the same manpower. Squads can change class at any time by picking up dropped weapons from enemies or weapon crates found all over the maps, changing their basic look, firepower, and available abilities. Hero units begin with their own unique ability that is tied into their specific identity and specialization. As units rank up, their basic stats increase along with unlocking various special abilities such as a piercing shot that can penetrate cover or a passive heal that activates outside of combat. Units gain ranks by participating in combat. Instead of simply having large swathes of units, the game presents you with smaller, more diverse squads that can adapt to situations as they arise. ![]() The units themselves are noteworthy and a key element of Iron Harvest. Each map will have a main storyline objective, along with some side missions that can be cleared for extra rewards to make the main mission easier. Each chapter or mission consists of clearing a single map of objectives. Iron Harvest includes a lot of the usual RTS gameplay staples: Players lead a wide variety of units into battle against the enemy, utilizing a range of environments and tactics to defeat other squadrons of enemy combatants. You have to play them in order, but the game takes this into consideration, continuing to add more challenges to the campaign instead of resetting the difficulty back when you move onto the next character. The three separate main stories all center around different heroes of the war, each with their own storyline and influence on the outcome of the war. The maps themselves have interesting scenery and themes, with new and exciting objectives that escalate with the war and each of the three plots. The writing works well as a linking device between each fight. ![]() Our ever-stylish March cover girl and Most Stylish Lady award recipient loves her Louis Vuitton Lockit in Quetsche, a deep red hue that goes perfectly with Jaime’s fierce and sultry sense of style.
